Welcome to the Moose Capital of Colorado!
This stunning state park is vast and offers something for everyone—fishing, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and incredible wildlife sightings. No matter the season, there's always something to explore.

Foodie Spot:

  1. Howling Coyote - Mexican Food and the only restaurant in Gould! The atmosphere is so cozy!

  2. Mishawaka Restaurant - Perfect stop on your drive to State Forest State Park from Fort Collins. Grab a burger and enjoy the patio on the river.

  3. Stockman Bar and Grill - Located west in Walden. Serving up delicious food and a fun atmosphere!

Where to Stay:

Stay in a back country yurt with Yonder Yurts. This once in a lifetime experience gives you the ultimate mountain escape. There are 7 yurts to choose from - all ranging in different distances from the road. You can stay all year round because they have a wood burning stove to keep you warm. Popular for hiking in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter. Each yurt has cooking equipment, solar powered battery and an outhouse.

Things to do:

  1. Hike to Lake Agnes - Magical lake with a little island in the middle. It is a short and moderate climb with only .8 miles up to the lake and about 450 ft elevation gain. The wildflowers by the parking lot are so beautiful. Make sure to take a 4WD car up to the trailhead, if not you can park by the bridge off the highway and hike up the road!

  2. Ruby Jewel Road Trail - The perfect moderate day hike. 7.7 miles round trip and about 1,900 ft in elevation gain. This is also a popular trail in the winter for cross country skiing!

  3. Spot a Moose - Drive along Highway 41 all the way to the dead end to try and spot some moose. Check it out during sunrise or sunset for the best chances!
