Steamboat Springs Guide & 4 Day Itinerary (2026)
Steamboat Springs is one of Colorado's best mountain towns, blending authentic Western charm with incredible outdoor adventures, excellent restaurants, natural hot springs, and a lively downtown. While many people know Steamboat as a world-class ski destination, it's just as spectacular during the summer and fall when wildflowers bloom, rivers fill with tubers, and golden aspens cover the surrounding mountains.
Whether you're planning a relaxing weekend getaway or an adventure-packed vacation, this guide covers everything you need to know—including the best things to do, where to eat, where to stay, and a complete weekend itinerary.
Where to Stay:
TownePlace & SpringHill Suites - Cozy hotel offering mountain themed suites perfect for the whole family. Free shuttle service to town and the slopes. Relaxing pool and two hot tubs. Plus enjoy free breakfast during your stay!
Foodie Spots:
Winona’s Bakery and Restaurant - you HAVE to try the famous cinnamon rolls.
Ore House at the Pine Grove - fun atmosphere, salad bar, cinnamon rolls as an appetizer and make sure you try the house potato. It is a fried ball of mashed potato goodness coated in a tasty cheese sauce.
Salt and Lime - Stop by for happy hour from 3:30-5:30 and enjoy great views on the rooftop. The margaritas and tacos are amazing.
Creekside Cafe - Charming cafe with a cozy patio on the creek. Everything here is amazing!
Mambo - You can’t go wrong here - pizza or pasta it all is so good.
Lyons Soda Fountain - I love this vintage soda fountain on the corner. Grab a scoop of ice cream or get a soda float.
Oasis Sundeck - Take a ride up in the gondola. Soak in incredible views with refreshing drinks and bites.
Mythology Distillery - Craft cocktails, whiskey garden and fun tours
The Crawford Lounge - Brand new western themed bar with fun cocktails and one of Steamboat’s only pool tables!
Slopeside - Steamboat Staple! Get delicious pizza right on the ski slopes!
Things to do:
Hike to Fish Creek Falls - The lower falls is a very quick hike down in less than 10 minutes. I would recommend it if you are up for a challenge to hike to the upper falls. The trail has great views and I love all the Aspens. It is 4.5 miles round trip and 1,437 ft elevation gain.
Tube down the Yampa River - You can rent tubes and get a ride on the bus to get dropped off. Click the link for more information
Strawberry Park Hot Springs - My favorite hot springs in Colorado. Reservations are required and it is CASH only upon arrival.
Yampa River Botanic Gardens - Free to visit and worth the stop. The offer fun classes like free yoga three days a week during the summer
Cruise down the Alpine Slide - Fun activity for the entire family
Gondola Ride - Ride up to the top of the mountain. There is a little loop trail you can hike and enjoy bites and drinks at the Oasis Sundeck

Walk along Lincoln Avenue and browse some of Steamboat's favorite local shops:
F.M. Light & Sons

If you're visiting on a Saturday during the summer, don't miss the Steamboat Farmers Market—it's one of the best in Colorado and stretches several blocks through downtown.
Happy Hour & Dinner
Head to Mambo Italiano for one of the best happy hours in town. Their half-price pizzas and drink specials make it a perfect first-night dinner.
Evening
Finish the evening with a peaceful stroll through Yampa River Botanic Park before relaxing for the night.
Day 2: Waterfalls, Hot Springs & Downtown
This is the classic Steamboat day and includes several of the area's most iconic attractions.
Morning
Start early at Fish Creek Falls before the crowds arrive.
Spend about 1–3 hours exploring the falls and surrounding trails. I love the upper falls hike.
Grab breakfast or brunch at Winona's, one of Steamboat's most popular local restaurants.
Afternoon
Spend the afternoon soaking at Strawberry Park Hot Springs. Reservations are required and can be made on their website. Make sure to bring cash to pay when you arrive.
Evening
Head back downtown for dinner before stopping at Mythology Distillery for handcrafted cocktails. I love Ore House - a fun western themed steakhouse. Get the house potato - thank me later!
Day 3: Steamboat Lake Adventure
Today is all about getting outside.
Drive about 40 minutes north to Steamboat Lake State Park.
Spend the day enjoying everything the park has to offer:
Rent a kayak or paddleboard
Relax on the swim beach
Go fishing
Have a lakeside picnic
Enjoy the mountain scenery
If you're up for a hike, continue to Hahns Peak Fire Lookout for one of the best panoramic views in the area.
On your drive back toward town, consider making a stop at Pearl Lake State Park for a quieter and more secluded mountain lake. Also make a pit stop at the Lyons Drugstore and Soda Fountain for a yummy root beer float!
Dinner
Return to Steamboat for dinner downtown and spend another evening exploring shops or enjoying live music if there's an event happening. I love Salt and Lime - they have a great rooftop, margaritas and tacos. Go during happy hour for a great 3 taco deal!
Day 4: Scenic Views & One Last Adventure
Make the most of your final day before heading home.
Grab coffee from your favorite local café before riding the Steamboat Gondola.
During the summer, you'll be treated to incredible mountain views, hiking trails, and scenic overlooks from the top. An alternative that is fun for the family is the Alpine Slide.
If you're visiting later in the day, check the schedule for the gondola's popular sunset happy hour with live music on select nights
Choose one last adventure:
Visit Stagecoach State Park
Explore Yampa River State Park
Rent bikes and cruise around town
Take one final walk through downtown
Lunch
Enjoy one last meal in Steamboat before picking up any souvenirs you may have missed. One of my favorite quick spots is Hypnotic Chicken!
Then hit the road already planning your next trip back to Steamboat Springs.
